just a thought...

you know i was thinking the other day about the cost difference between nursing a baby & formula. ok you might be thinking breast milk is free as i did once, but wait just a minute. Between eating a little more while nursing (doesn't cost that much i know), the lanolin, the nursing pads (i use lily pads btw which are WONDERFUL but cost about $23.00ish), buying a pump (thankfully someone gave me one as a baby gift), the mommy milk storage bags (someone also gave me 300 of them so i haven't had to buy any yet) and all the time you put into feeding & pumping, i just wonder what the cost difference really is. I love nursing don't get me wrong! there is this bond between you and your baby that is indescribable, and i wouldn't change a minute of it, BUT i can't help but think would formula be easier? i plan on nursing as long as possible (my goal is a year so that he can go straight to whole milk). just curious about your thoughts...if you have any.

Although some things for nursing are expensive at first...if you plan to have more kids it is more of an investment. My kiddos never made it past 4 mos and formula got expensive quick we were spending $25 every 10 days!! I definitely agree with nursing as long as you can and clipping coupons when you have to buy formula =)

Formula has added up on us. We pay $21, two times a week, give or take; that ends up to at least $120 a month, which is 720 in just six months. YIKES! So, its very pricey.

But, breastfeeding can be inconvenient at times. It just wasn't a good fit for me and Jack. BUT I'm hoping with our next child that he/she latches on better and I can breastfeed longer than i did with Jack.

I also think that whether its a week, a month, or six months, any amount breastfeeding, the woman deserves kudos because it can be tough work!

i think you should nurse/pump as long as possible, but once he has teeth, you may reconsider. Good luck lasting a whole year though!!

I keep trying to word this well, but I'm afraid I'm going to offend someone! This is my thought:
If you can nurse without using bottles, it's much easier. My second and third never took a bottle (they wouldn't) and although it was a little less convenient, it was definitely less of a hassle than cleaning all those parts and bottles! I was still in college when I had my oldest, so I know what it's like to have to pump and do all of that. Also, now that I'm on the other side of nursing (at least for about 5 more months!), I am so thankful that I was able to give my kids that gift. With each child I have, they find more reasons that breastmilk is good for them (and us) and it is nice to think that they had that start. It's definitely possible to make it through teeth too, you just have to be stern! Let me know if it becomes a problem and I'll give you some tips. If you become discouraged, feel free to email or call me, I've had my share of ups and downs too!

First off, your baby boy is sooo precious! He is such a handsome little man. It only gets better and better!

I got most of those things too, but really stopped using them all after a few months. Breastfeeding for me here in Peru has just been incredibly convenient. It's always ready and you never have to worry about bad water, heating anything up or cleaning supplies. I pumped and fed with bottles for a little while, but then I stopped and now she won't touch a bottle. However, for us, I don't really need to ever be away from her so it hasn't been much of a problem.

Enjoy your little man!
